Volunteer Photographer
Our Volunteer Photographers deliver remembrance photography sessions in a compassionate and sensitive manner to parents primarily in hospitals and hospices, although occasionally they take place at a funeral home or the family home.
You do not have to be a professional photographer to apply; many of our existing volunteers are skilled amateurs. The main criteria are owning your own equipment (DSLR camera, flash or Speedlight, and editing software as a minimum), and being proficient in its use in various indoor lighting conditions.
In addition to the photography aspect, our volunteer photographers usually handle their own image editing (with specialist help available for complex edits) to ensure timely delivery within our 4-6 week timeframe.
Our comprehensive training programme will prepare you for all aspects of our remembrance photography service, including working with lighting conditions in hospitals, posing babies and families, dealing with bereaved families and appropriate conversations. We also offer a shadow session with an experienced volunteer to get you started off if you feel that it’s something you need.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our images, and because of this you will be asked to submit ten images in a variety of lighting conditions for assessment as part of your application. The subject matter isn't crucial; we're assessing your equipment proficiency, so don't feel pressured. Some applicants simulate session scenarios (using dolls, teddies, etc.), but it's not obligatory.
